CDNZ have developed the a model of capacity development based on knowledge of effective practice in a range of contributing fields of practice.

The key strategy which underpins the model is relationships; relationships with people working in the NFP sector as providers, and in funding, planning and policy roles, with a focus on supporting NFP’s and building capacity within the sector as a whole.

The CDNZ Model

In recognition of the diversity of the New Zealand population and therefore the diversity of services needed in the health and social sector, we have based this model on needs assessment and tailored approaches to suit each organisation. By taking a phased and long term relationship approach, we can work with organisations of all sizes and structures to achieve positive and improved outcomes.

We are committed to supporting the Treaty of Waitangi, its principles and the values that underpin equitable and culturally appropriate services. CDNZ utilises government and non-government models for Māori development and incorporates these as guidelines for ensuring the needs of Māori are met within mainstream organisations. Māori Models of Capacity Development

Our ideal model is based on the Organisational Needs Assessment approach which creates a capacity development plan and actions for the whole organisation. However this may not be the starting point and we also offer more specific or targeted approaches starting with the service or system which is your greatest area of need. Services are grouped into strategic areas of governance, operational and sustainability.

CDNZ can be accessed directly or through funded capacity development programmes. Becoming a member of CDNZ has many benefits over a sustained time frame, allowing for both tailored and phased approaches specific to the needs of each organisation
