How The CDNZ Model Works

CDNZ has developed a new approach to working with organisations through a process of Organisational Needs Assessment.

Assessment and Partnership Development Process

An initial meeting with the Chair and CEO and a CDNZ Advisor is held to scope the purpose and history of the organisation and to build relationships. To move towards a partnership between CDNZ and the organisation, will take time, an initial phase of ‘getting to know’ each other and understand the business and its needs is an essential first step.

An Organisational Needs Assessment follows, which aims to identify what the needs of the organisation are, based on developing an understanding of the current state of play, challenges and opportunities and potential for development. The assessment covers the following areas and is implemented using a specially designed assessment guide and ensuring the key internal people are engaged. The ONA includes:

  • Governance
  • Operational
  • Sustainability

aspects of the organisation.

This first step in building the relationship with CDNZ will also provide the basis for establishing a partnership for the long term through the membership programme.

Capacity Development Plan

The organisational needs assessment process will result in a tailored Capacity Development Plan (CDP), which will set out an overview of the needs analysis, and identify areas for capacity development, with priorities. The plan is the start of a working relationship between CDNZ and the organisation, and once developed will be finalised in a joint process, to ensure the priorities fit the organisation’s needs, resources and timeframes.

The CDP will provide an overview of organisation’s current strategic and operational direction and capacity, including governance, operational and sustainability aspects and issues.

It will provide an analysis of the responses to the ONA and summarise emergent themes. These themes will inform future directions and priorities, which will be developed by the CDNZ Advisor in conjunction with the CEO, Chair and key senior staff. A phased action plan will complete the CDP.

The plan will be signed off jointly between the NFP leadership and CDNZ.
