CDNZ offers a range of flexible services to suit the needs of each organisation. Based on evidence of good practice in a range of disciplines which all contribute to the overall capacity development model, and built on strong relationships and practical resources, CDNZ offers the following services individually or in combination.

Our ideal model is based on the organisational needs assessment approach which creates a capacity development plan and actions for the whole organisation. However this may not be the starting point and we also offer more specific or targeted approaches starting with the service or system which is your greatest area of need. Services are grouped into strategic areas of governance, operational and sustainability.

Relationships

Governance

Good governance is all about how your board works, its people, policies, procedures and practice. CDNZ offers support in all areas of good governance including:

Operational

How the operational side of your organisation works is all about its people, policies, systems, and practice. There are many aspects of operational activity from the CEO and Strategic Plan to the range of services you provide, your team and how they work together, the relationship with the board and with other key people outside the organisation, how you move from policy into practice with systems, support and structures and how you base your services on good practice and evaluate how you are making a difference.

CDNZ has a range of services and resources to support you in all these areas, through review, planning, advice and redevelopment. Including:

Sustainability

How can organisations become more sustainable ? Understanding how your organisation works and where its challenges and opportunities lie in the future will help us to develop a plan for future capacity development and sustainability. There are many aspects to what makes an organisation sustainable with some common core elements. CDNZ believes the most significant  needs will emerge over time from having a sustained relationship and support, but there can also be more immediate short term opportunities to improve sustainable outcomes. CDNZ offers support for:

  • Leadership development
  • Mentoring
  • Peer support and network development
  • Sector development
  • Funding models and financial sustainability
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Partnership and collaboration
  • Integration planning

Māori Models of Capacity Development

Many NFP’s will have a commitment to ensuring they address the Treaty of Waitangi and its principles or articles in the way they develop and deliver services to Māori. Many government departments require in their contracts that providers do this and to support them, may provide tools and guidelines to support this approach. CDNZ is committed to working to support organisations with this area of development, through utilisation of good practice guidelines and tools.

How It Works

CDNZ can be accessed directly or though funded capacity development programmes. Becoming a member of CDNZ has many benefits over a sustained time frame, allowing for both tailored and phased approaches specific to the needs of each organisation.

A planned approach to needs assessment and strategic business planning as a basis for identifying the specific needs of the organisation can be a useful first step. The outcomes of this initial phase will determine the appropriate supports and resources needed to implement the organisation’s capacity development plan. For some organisations starting with a specific service review, area of redevelopment or revisiting how systems work can be the most useful way to join CDNZ and access support services. CDNZ has developed its services to be flexible and responsive to meet different needs in this way.
